Horton Plains National Park is a national park in the central highlands of Sri Lanka. It is located at an altitude of 2,100-2,300 m (6,900-7,500 ft) and covers mountain grasslands and cloud forest. It is rich in biodiversity and many of the species found here are endemic to the region. Located 32 km (20 miles) from Nuwara Eliya.
The vegetation of the plains is grassland bordered by
mountain forests and includes several endemic woody plants. Large herds of
Sambar deer in Sri Lanka feature common mammals, and the park is an important
bird sanctuary, with many species endemic to Sri Lanka and confined to the
Horton Plains. Waterfalls such as World's End and Baker's Falls are among the
park's tourist attractions.
