Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura, located in the North-Central Province of Sri Lanka, is the oldest kingdom in Sri Lanka. The old part of Anuradhapura, now preserved as an Archaeological Park declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, is one of the most famous ancient cities in Sri Lanka. Nearby are large bell-shaped dagobas (Buddhist monuments or stupas) built of sun-dried bricks as well as temples, sculptures, palaces and ancient drinking water reservoirs.

A branch of the Bo tree at Buddhagaya is planted here. The Bo tree was planted in Anuradhapura around 245 BC and is said to be the oldest surviving tree of historical and historical records.
